Heaps of snow !
The Gorge is having a real winter for a change. I haven't seen as much snow and rain in town for maybe 8 years. Normally we get the odd snowfall in town and all the good stuff falls up on the mountain , but this year the freeze level has been low. That means we get snow way down here at 800' elevation, I love it.
If you have been reading this blog for a few years you know that I have a crew of mountain bikers that like to ride right through the winter, and since we all have jobs we ride at night. Sounds nuts at first but once you have the right gear it's pretty safe and fun. Well this year has been the wettest, sloppiest riding. Most often the rockier trails are just wet and we ride those, but lately they have had some snow on them, making riding just a little harder. Life's tough in the Gorge.
Meanwhile, up on the mountain life is good I have been ski-touring a bit and getting a lot of fresh tracks and a heck of a workout. With touring you really have to earn your turns, including a few sketchy creek crossings.
