I just got back from a week long vacation in the sun with my family. I took them on an adventure to explore somewhere new. This place known as Holbox (pronounced Hole-bosh) and it's an island located just off the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. It's a laid back little town, no cars, sand roads and only 8 streets. It get plenty of sun and is very warm.
The wind isn't strong enough to call it a windsurf spot but it is definately great for kiteboarding.Super flat shallow water suit a 9-12m2 kite just fine at the main site which is just a 50 peso golf cart ride up the beach. However if the wind turns a little south then you pay the local kite school 200 pesos or so for a boat ride to a slightly wavy location that is very remote and peaceful.
Beware of kiting in front of the hotels and/or walking in the shallows; one got me arrested & the other got me stung. Nothing a few smiles, 150 peso fine, some pain-killers and several Mojitos didn't fix.
