Freestyle boards are designed for tricks. Generally a bit wider than average,
these boards give the rider a bit more
planing ability, and also allowing more time to pull off a move
before sinking. These boards are also great for learning jibes, waterstarts, etc..
Increased width and surface area gets these boards
planing easily, but the extra width may be a bit more difficult to control in
overpowering conditions. Some freestyle boards have
channels in the nose to facilitate riding the board backwards
(feet on the nose).
Freestyle boards work great for the following sailors:
- A sailor who is working on complicated transition or sailing
maneuvers.
- Someone who is just learning their waterstarts, jibes, and
jumps; or just getting their feet in the footstraps.
- Someone who is an experienced sailor, who wants a board that
will be great for a variety of conditions, from wave sailing,
freestyle, or just cruising around in a variety of wind
conditions
Bic Boards:
Bic boards have an ASA/fiberglass/epoxy
skin, with an EPS
core which makes them stiff and reasonably light. This
combination skin makes them more durable.
Angulo, RRD, Quatro Boards:
All are known as high performance board manufacturers, built using
top of the line materials (epoxy/fiberglass/Kevlar/carbon),
and sandwich
construction skin over a light weight EPS
core. These boards are among the strongest, stiffest, high
performance boards built today.
