In the past, learning took place on "longboards", but have since been replaced by boards that are much shorter, wider and far more stable than their predecessors. These improvements make it easier to get started in the sport of windsurfing.  Most of the boards on this page are also available with a  rig package. 

Bic Boards: Nova, Techno series 
Bic boards have an ASA/fiberglass/epoxy skin, with an EPS core which makes them stiff and reasonably light.  This combination skin makes them more durable.   

RRD Boards: Easy Rider (shown above) and AvantRide series 
Known as a high performance board manufacturer and built using top of the line materials (epoxy/fiberglass/Kevlar/carbon), and sandwich construction skin over a light weight  EPS core. Their entry level and freeride boards are as good as anything else out there, and are available to beginners for free thanks to Windance's Free Learn to Windsurf Program in The Gorge each summer. These boards are among the strongest, stiffest and lightest high performance boards built today.

• Beginner Packages: These are complete, and include a longboard, and rig.
• Longboards are usually considered boards over 10' long with daggerboards  and  volume of from 150 liters to 250 liters.
• Freeride : All round boards for 5.5 meter sails  to about 11.0.
• Freestyle : Freestyle boards for 7.5 meter sails and down.
• Wave and Gorge : Wave/gorge boards for 7.5 meter sails and down.
