It's been an unbelievable season here in La Ventana. Since
the first week of November, the winds have been relentless,
with only an average of one day per week of "no
wind" to rest. The fishermen are the only ones
complaining, but if you come here to fish in the winter
you're in the wrong place...try summer for the best
fishing.
March is continuing to be windy with plenty of room on
the beach and water since 80% of the campers have headed
north for the season. Early this week after two days of
strong north winds, we were treated to some of the best
swells and waves we have seen all season. The tides and wind
set up perfectly to create waves with 5' to 6' faces on the
sandbar between Capt. Kirk's and the campground...it was
Baja heaven for the few of us that are still here. There
were even people surfing and riding boogie boards at the end
of the bay past Baja Joe's.
As another season comes to an end, it's good to reflect
on what a special place Baja and particularly La Ventana is.
With more new faces arriving each season we all hope that La
Ventana can hold on to its charm and uniqueness. At this
point we still have a blend of visitors and Mexican people
who seem to share and enjoy each others culture and
lifestyles. Let's hope that we can preserve this special
place.
Nancy and I will be at Windance again this summer running
the Rental/Demo center, so stop by and let us step you up
with some great gear and local knowledge of our other
favorite place...the Columbia Gorge!
Good Sailing,
Gary & Nancy
