Baja Update - October 11, 2004

New Season in Baja

The windy season usually doesn't begin until November, however people have begun to arrive here on the beach in La Ventana.  The late summer heat and humidity still lingers, but we have had some light winds to keep things tolerable in the shade.  Fortunately the tropical storms of a few weeks ago passed to the west and north of La Ventana.  The road down is in good shape except for the on-going repairs in southern Baja.  It was smoothing traveling even with the 6 military stops along the way.
There are some changes this season...which includes an increase from 40 to 60 pesos per day for the campground.  The local governing body is faced with an increase in federal beach tax and rising water prices.  They are currently working on a new fence and entry gate, and the rumor of a new dock at the south end of the park...is just that.  There is a new access road on the south side of the shrimp factory that extends to the edge of the water, but no dock.  There is also a new restaurant north of the park.

If you are coming to Baja this season we have some great gear for sailors to demo, including the new Changos from Angulo and the new 2005 Ezzy Special Edition.  We'll be sending more reports as the season gets under way, so check back soon.  Oh, almost forgot...the fishing is great compared to last season.  Fresh Dorado on the grill...we must be in Baja!

Good sailing, Gary & Nancy
