Hi Sailors,
Happy Holidays from Baja! The camp is
filling up as the holiday sailors from southern California make
there way the short 1000 miles south of the border. It seems
to be a couple new arrivals every day this past week. There
is still room, so no worry at this time for finding a spot.
The sailing has been great since the 1st of December with only one
day of no wind out of the past 10. However, people who came
for a quick sailing or kiting vacation the last week of November
got skunked! The last 8 days of the month saw zero wind.
The veteran Baja sailors were scratching their heads trying to
remember a similar dry spell this time of year. Fortunately
Baja is like the Gorge where there are numerous alternative
activities for windless days. The mountain and dirt bikes
were out in force exploring the back roads and trails of beautiful
southern Baja. For those of you who keep track of such
things; November saw 20 sailing days.
Here are some comments from folks testing the
new 2003 Ezzy Waves here at the Baja Test Center. Donna from
Southern California loves her 2000 Ezzy Waves, but needs a 5.2 to
fill out her quiver. She took out a 5.2 and came back with a
big smile on her face with the following comments; " I loved
the balance and light feel the sail has, especially in the gusts.
It didn't feel heavy, or try to pull me over when a gust hits the
sail...it's great. Jim from BC Canada was impressed with the
fact that a wave sail can also be fast. He said, " I
was sailing with my friends all morning on my (other brand) 5.2
and decided to compare it to the Ezzy. We had been casing
each other doing the friendly speed test thing. I put the
Ezzy 5.2 on the same board and took it out in the same conditions
and just sailed away from everybody. How can a wave sail be
so bloody fast and still have great low end?"
The first swap meet of the season is set for
Saturday December 14 at the RV Park (8-12 am). If you will
be here by then, bring all those special items that have been
hiding in the corner of your garage, trailer, or motor home.
And for the fisher people out there; do you Wahoo?...the Wahoo are
biting! Check out the 45 lb bad boy who came back to camp
with us last Sunday morning. There is no better fighting and
eating fish in the Sea of Cortez.
Happy Holidays,
Gary
