2006 Baja Report

Have you had it with the rain we're getting in the Northwest and Gorge this winter? You want less fog and fewer clouds? You've come to the right place! Gary and Nancy will keep our faces and hearts in the wind and sun while we struggle to survive one of the wettest winters in years.

Early Season Update - December 21, 2005

The season here in La Ventana, BCS is off to an unbelievably windy start. This is definitely the windiest season in years. After only a few days of wind in October and early November, the Nortes kicked in on November 10th and except for only 4 or 5 days, have been blowing everyday since!

We've been having stretches of 10 to 15 days of sailable wind then one day for fishing or needed rest. And most days have been serious 4.2 to 4.7 for the sailors and 8, 10 and occasionally 12 meters for kiters. Life is definitely good; sunshine and day after day of wind.

One look at the campground and it's easy to see that La Ventana is no longer a secret place that few people know about. It seems that people have arrived 2 or 3 weeks earlier than past years. The last beach front site was gone by October 20th, and with another week before the Christmas crowd arrives, there are only a couple of places left along the back fence. It looks like a cozy January at the RV Park. One good thing is that the new banos have been completed near the entrance...a welcome addition.

Good news in the equipment department...the new 2006 Ezzys are fantastic! Nancy and I have been enjoying the new SE for several weeks in some of Baja's best swells / bump and jump conditions.

I believe they have even more range, power, and speed than past years, with what I would call "finger tip balance". Just follow the easy to understand rigging guides, and all you need is a light touch on the boom for a fun, smooth and balanced ride. And new for '06 is an extra strong bottom panel to guard against harness hook dents, and colors that really pop out on the water.  Enjoy the holidays, and if you are lucky enough to be heading to Baja this winter, we'll see you on the water.
