There are still a few spots left in the campground, but the Christmas crowd has definitely arrived in La Ventana. Many folks from California come down for a couple weeks this time of year, since it's just a 2 1/2 day drive from San Diego. The conditions have been excellent for December; as of the 22nd, we have had 18 sailing days, including 10 days of 4.7 and two of 4.2, there have been some big smiles on the beach this month. Speaking of the beach; it's changing as the winter north winds are moving the sand point formed by the run off from last year's hurricane at the north end of the park. The kite launching area is moving towards the central beach area as the north end becomes more narrow. The shifting sands are also exposing the rocks in the shore break, so we will be clearing entry and exit paths like years past.

The great conditions that we have had recently have tested the limits of many sailors equipment. I have seen a number of broken masts the past few weeks, which in Baja means a long swim back to the beach through the waves and swell...definitely not fun! And what advice do I give when asked about problem masts? Consider a high carbon (90%) RDM mast like the Ezzy Hookipa Wave. They are a no compromise mast that can stand up to Ocean and Gorge conditions...period. Happy Holidays from Baja, Gary
