Berkeley Marina
The most reliable afternoon winds in the east bay and best in summer. Located at the end of University Blvd. in the San Francisco Bay. back to California sites

Skill Level: 1-07 Amenities: Sailing clubs, marina, fishing.
Sailing conditions: 4.5-10.0 depending on your gear preference. 5.5-5.0 is the most common for the bump-and-jump crowd, swell waist to shoulder high, steepest at His Lordships restaurant (the point). Racers congregate here, then sail to points throughout the bay. Head up wind and through the pier for a new perspective on the Bay Area.
Rigging area: The Marina: Grassy areas or in the parking lot. There are some carpeted areas, but are often crowded with large sails and local racers.
The Point: Rig on the pedestrian walkway, or in the road and carry your gear to the windward (west) side of the restaurant.
Launch: The Marina: Launch from the several wooden docks. Best to do a seated "beach start" from the dock, but be careful of splinters. Do not leave gear on the docks.
The Point: Carry your gear down the rock "steps" to the small cove. Wade/swim out beyond the breakwater and go. Best to launch here in lighter winds or later in the day as the windshadow created by the point can make for a long swim back to the docks.
Parking/Camping: Park at the marina, or at the point. The marina has nicer rigging, but the point lets you launch right into the wind and swell. Cars do get broken into at the point, so lock everything up, and don't stash your keys on your car. Or bring a dog to watch your everything for you.
Extras: Beautiful sunsets, and an all-around great place to watch the bay. Walk out on the pier 300 yards into the bay, check out all the sailboats, or lounge in the huge grassy area at the north end of the marina.
Warnings and hazards: Standard Safety Tips
Site specific:  There is no current here, but failure to stay upwind will leave you in deep mud and getting washed against a boulder seawall. So if you can't stay upwind, go to Alameda's Crown Beach. Don't head out into the bay too late in the day because the fog moves inland every afternoon, shutting down the wind as it goes. If launching at the Point, its a good idea to wear booties.

One should always be aware of the local currents, tides and underwater obstacles.
Directions
to get there
:
Exit on University Blvd. from I-80 and turn west. Turn left at the "Y" and stop sign. The marina area rigging and launching will be just around the soft corner on the left. To get to the point, drive past the marina area to the "T". Turn left at the stop sign and go to end. Best to park on the ocean side facing the bay, but there is always lots of parking in the main lot behind the restaurant. If the wind is weird here, go look at Pt Isabel.
