Safety Tips
Site specific: The upper break is a soft
wave except on bigger swells, and has a huge channel for
getting out easily. Lowers breaks in smaller swells and has
a bowlier shape to its' sections. If you lose your stuff
there, it washes onto a rock shelf beating up your gear
until you get to it. In places, the shelf is covered in
mussels that will cut through booties, wetsuits, and skin.
For the truly unlucky, there is "The Cave". South
of the point there is a cave in the sea cliff that the right
order of unfortunate events can draw you or your gear into.
Whatever goes into the cave comes out in pieces. Don't try
to save your gear if it heads into the cave, it isn't worth
the risk, just swim away.
One should always be aware of the local currents, tides
and underwater obstacles.

Directions
to get there: |
The closest of the
well-known spots to Santa Cruz, head north form town about
11 miles. Turn west onto Davenport Landing Road, across from
the concrete plant. From the north, drive through the
"town" of Davenport Landing and a mile or so
further south. Davenport Landing Road is one way, so turn
right at the second intersection and proceed to the parking
area. |
