Amenities:
Nothing to full RV hook-ups and lodging. Varies by site |

conditions: |
Summer winds are
typically 4.2-5.5 for morning and afternoon - evening
sessions. Morning conditions are cleaner, but the afternoons
are warm. Not sailable on a max flood unless you set out on
a planned down- winder. Not a good place for sailors that
cannot return to the exact spot they launched from. Failure
to do this results in a climb over the large, slippery
boulders of the levee wall. |
 |
| Rigging
area: |
On the dry side of
the levee, in the parking/camping areas. Carry your stuff
over the levee and across the road to launch. |

|
| Launch: |
The launches run the
whole range here. Sandy beaches, slippery sand bags, and
unimproved rock launches all exist and are used regularly. |
 |
| Parking/Camping: |
There are roughly 10
sites along the Sherman Island Levee Road to sail from.
Camping is allowed at most sites, some for a fee, and most
have porta-potties.The area is extremely hot and dry in
summer so bring your own shade and be careful with open
flame. For supplies, the towns of Rio Vista and Antioch are
about 20 minutes away. |

| Extras: |
Lots
of starboard ramps, warm winds and good times. |

Safety Tips
Site specific: If you break down or
are unable to gt back to the launch, try to get in at one of
the other popular launches. Climbing over the levee boulders
will cut up you and your gear. Max flood tides are nearly
unbeatable, however they make for super smooth downwind
runs. Kiters and beginners prefer the camping/parking at the
very end of the road at the state park.
One should always be aware of the local currents, tides and
underwater obstacles. |
Directions
to get there: |
From
Highway 160 (Hwy 6 from the town of Hercules to Antioch)
turn north on W Sherman Island Road and proceed to the sharp
left turn at the water's edge, and drive as far as you like.
The main sites are Powerlines, The Sign, Mini-Baja, and
"The Access", and Sacramento County Park
("The End") |

| Comments
and news about this site: |
Listen to
the Powerlines, they will tell you how windy it is. A hum
means 4.7-5.0, and when you hear a steady higher pitched
whine that sounds like a bad wheel bearing, it's 4.2.
