Sailing conditions: Moderate west winds, lighter on the inside, strong in the middle of the river.

Launch: Very easy launch, nice sandy beach, gets deeper very gradually.

Site specific:
  • Very strong current where the Hood River runs in to the Columbia.
  • Shallow sand bars at the mouth of the Hood River.
  • If you get stranded in the middle of the river, swim to the Washington side, as that is where the current will take you anyway.
  • Summertime can be crowded with lots of beginners. Watch out for other sailors
