What is the RRD "Pro-Lite finish"?
A "normal" semi-custom board paint job will generally add
between 1-2 pounds to the completed, glassed and prepped blank. When
RRD paints a 2005 board they start with a very thin layer. Then the
paint is hand-sanded and leveled and touched up where necessary. The
minimal paint is unique and semi-transparent. A light clear-coat
sealer is then applied to the entire board. After the clear-coat has
cured, it is checked for any anomalies or flaws, then polished. This
finish saves 1-1.5 pounds per board, a weight savings of as much as
12% without removing any fiberglass, resin, or foam that make RRD
boards perform and last.
This weight reduction means more performance to the rider: faster
planing, bigger jumps, better acceleration and a light, lively feel.
For ten years RRD has been producing legendary shapes that have been
popular with all types of sailors in all kinds of conditions, all
over the world. And 2005 is no exception. The Freestyle Wave line
was so popular last year they sold out by July, so this year we got
a bunch of them. Changes for 2005 are subtle shape refinements and a
new sizing: 80, 90, 100 and 110 liter models. Wide, thin and loose,
these boards make the most out of marginal conditions and are great
for waves, freestyle, and everything in between.
Also new for 2005 is the completely redesigned Wave
Swallow. Short lengths, thruster fins and medium widths are the big
changes, and the results are in the turns. The boards come in 68, 78
and 88 liter models, each one ready to slash and carve through the
summer.
2005
models include: FunStyle, AvantGlide, WaveCult, HardcoreWave, FreestyleWave
Wave Swallow.
