This highly anticipated festival showcases the talents of both professional and amateur kiteboarders, who meet annually to exhibit their skills and compete in a variety of disciplines within the sport.

One of the highlights of the event is the thrilling competitions that take place throughout the festival. These include freestyle, big air, and racing, each offering its own unique challenges and opportunities for athletes to demonstrate their prowess. The iconic "Blowout race," is an adrenaline-pumping event that spans an impressive 17 miles from Stevenson, Washington, to Hood River, Oregon. This race, which has become a staple of the festival, tests the participants' endurance, strategy, and technical abilities as they navigate the challenging course.

Beyond the competitive nature of the festival, it also serves as a gathering place for kiteboarding enthusiasts to come together and celebrate their shared passion for the sport. The festival fosters a sense of inclusivity, providing a space for wind enthusiasts to connect with like-minded individuals, exchange knowledge and experiences, and forge lasting friendships. Spectators are invited to join in the excitement by lining the shoreline, witnessing the awe-inspiring displays of skill and daring maneuvers by kiteboarders, windsurfers, and wing foilers. The festival aslo includes live music performances, vendor booths offering the latest wind sports gear, food vendors, and exciting demonstrations.

The festival takes its name from the renowned Bridge of the Gods, an iconic landmark on the majestic Columbia River Gorge, connecting the states of Washington and Oregon. This bridge is not only visually captivating but is also known for the consistently windy conditions that make it an ideal location for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wing foiling.

Workshops and clinics are held to provide opportunities for kiteboarders of all levels to expand their skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced professionals. From beginner basics to advanced techniques, these sessions ensure that participants can make the most of their time at the festival.

Kiteboard 4 Cancer 2023 - July 7th to 9th

The Kite Derby, the main event of Kiteboard 4 Cancer (KB4C), is an extraordinary 6-hour endurance kiteboarding race that takes place in the Columbia River. This challenging race pushes participants to their physical and mental limits, symbolizing the daily battle that individuals facing cancer courageously endure.

The Kite Derby welcomes participants from various disciplines, including kiteboarders, kitefoilers, and wingfoilers. This inclusivity allows individuals with different skill sets and preferences to come together and take part in this remarkable event. By embracing a wide range of kiteboarding styles, KB4C fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie among the participants.

KB4C is more than just an exhilarating kiteboarding event; it also serves as a fundraising platform to support a worthy cause. The event benefits Project Koru, a non-profit organization based in Hood River. Project Koru is dedicated to empowering young adults with cancer by providing them with opportunities for healing and life renewal through outdoor adventures and a strong sense of community. This incredible initiative was made possible through the funding generated by Kiteboard 4 Cancer.

Over the years, KB4C has achieved remarkable milestones in its mission to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by cancer. Through the collective efforts of participants, donors, and supporters, the event has raised over $1.5 million for cancer programs, contributing to research, treatment, and support for those battling the disease.

Moreover, KB4C has sent more than 700 young cancer survivors through the Camp Koru young survivorship program. This program offers a transformative experience for survivors, allowing them to connect with others who have faced similar challenges while engaging in outdoor activities that promote healing and personal growth. Through these initiatives, KB4C has provided invaluable support and resources to young adults on their journey to recovery and renewal.

KB4C has also played a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and inspiration among kitesurfers. As North America's largest kiteboarding event, it has become a gathering place for individuals passionate about the sport. Participants have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, share their experiences, and learn from one another. This sense of community has not only expanded the sport but has also provided a platform for individuals to find encouragement, strength, and motivation in their own battles.

The impact of KB4C extends beyond the realm of kiteboarding. The event has forged collaborations with respected cancer centers such as the Stanford Cancer Center, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern, and The Ulman Cancer Fund. These partnerships have facilitated the exchange of knowledge and resources, ultimately leading to improved support and care for individuals affected by cancer.

At its core, KB4C represents the power of unity and the strength of community. It welcomes individuals from all walks of life, whether they are kiteboarders, spectators, volunteers, or supporters.
