What are Drysuits?

Drysuits are specialized waterproof garments designed to keep the wearer dry in aquatic environments, particularly in cold or frigid conditions. Unlike wetsuits that allow a thin layer of water to enter and warm up against the body, drysuits are constructed with impermeable materials that prevent water from penetrating. These suits typically feature waterproof seals at the neck, wrists, and ankles, along with a waterproof zipper, ensuring a tight and watertight fit. This design makes drysuits highly effective for maintaining body warmth, especially in chilly waters, making them an essential piece of gear for various water sports enthusiasts.

Why Use A Drysuit Wingfoiling, Drysuit Kiteboarding, or Drysuit Windsurfing?

The advantages of drysuits lie in their ability to provide thermal insulation and protection against cold water, wind, and rain. This makes them ideal for activities such as kiteboarding and windsurfing, where exposure to the elements is constant. Kiteboarders and windsurfers often face strong winds and splashing water, which can lead to rapid heat loss and discomfort. Drysuits offer a solution by creating a barrier between the body and the external elements, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite water sports in colder conditions without the risk of hypothermia or excessive heat loss.

Drysuits are particularly useful for wingfoiling, kiteboarding and windsurfing during the colder seasons or in regions with frigid waters. These water sports often involve spending extended periods in the water, and the insulating properties of drysuits help maintain a comfortable body temperature. The versatility of drysuits allows enthusiasts to extend their water sports season beyond the warmer months, providing a year-round option for those passionate about kiteboarding and windsurfing. Properly fitted drysuits, along with appropriate layering underneath, ensure that participants stay dry and warm, allowing them to focus on enjoying the thrill of the wind and waves without the distraction of cold or discomfort.

How Are A Wingfoiling Drysuit, Windsurfing Drysuit, and Kiteboarding Drysuit Different From A Scuba Drysuit?

Scuba diving drysuits are made to be completely submerged at depth and provide both adjustable bouyancy and maximum insulation. They must be completely water tight, connect to a regulator so that they can be inflated/deflated, and may be bulkier, as divers don't require as significant freedom of movement as surface sports athletes do.

A good drysuit for wingfoiling, a drysuit for kiteboarding, or a drysuit for windsurfing needs to protect you from conditions above water as much as below water, and give you wider range of motion. While the surface watersports drysuit needs to be able to handle being submerged, it doesn't need to hook up to a regulator and must give you full-body free range of movement, neither being too tight nor too bulky, so that you're free to shred without stumbling over yourself or your gear.

Wearing a drysuit kiteboarding will extend and improve the quality and comfort of your session in the coldest conditions.
