2024 North FreeSpeed GEN1 Windsurf Sail
Slalom-inspired speed, rapid acceleration and effortless no-cam handling.
The 2024 North FreeSpeed GEN1 windsurf sail brings the speed and stability of North’s Slalom Race development into a more accessible no-cam freerace design. Its foil-free, fin-focused profile combines 3Di molded shaping, six-batten stability and a centered driving force for early planing, powerful acceleration and efficient upwind performance. Lightweight handling and smooth rotation make it easier to gybe and control than a dedicated cambered race sail.

Why the North FreeSpeed GEN1 Works
Accessible Slalom Speed
The FreeSpeed draws heavily from North’s Slalom Race profile, delivering fast freerace performance without the cambers, wide mast sleeve or demanding handling of a pure race sail.
Rapid Acceleration
Its centered driving force balances planing power, handling and top-end performance, helping the board accelerate cleanly and maintain efficient speed through changing wind.
Stable 3Di Profile
North’s molded 3Di shaping supports impressive profile stability and dependable drive, keeping the sail composed when accelerating, sailing upwind or pushing through gusts.
Effortless Transitions
Six battens and zero cambers provide freerace stability with light rotation, making fast gybes and transitions noticeably easier than with a traditional cambered slalom sail.
Technology and Key Features
3Di Molded Technology
The sail’s three-dimensional flying shape is molded directly into its structure, supporting accurate profile control, efficient acceleration and dependable shape stability.
Dyneema Aramid Helix SL
3Di Dyneema Aramid tape material is combined with a Dyneema Aramid Helix SL load path to create a lightweight, responsive and carefully tensioned sail structure.
Six-Batten Stability
Every verified 2024 size uses six battens, providing the profile support required for freerace speed while retaining responsive handling.
No-Cam Configuration
Zero cambers simplify rigging and allow the sail to rotate smoothly during gybes, without sacrificing the stability expected from a high-performance freerace sail.
Integrated Reinforcements
Structural reinforcement materials are integrated into the sail to support high-load areas without relying on bulky external patches.
Integrated Batten Pockets
Integrated batten pockets create a clean connection between the battens and sail body while supporting the intended freerace profile.
Rock-it Batten Tensioners
North’s Rock-it system provides simple and secure batten-tension adjustment for maintaining a clean, stable sail shape.
EZ Clew
The EZ Clew provides alternate boom settings, allowing the rider to refine the sail’s power, handling and outhaul position.
EZ Downhaul 2-in-1
The adaptable tack system works with compatible RDM or MDM mast extensions, helping make downhaul setup fast and straightforward.
Streamlined Materials
A clear monofilm window maintains visibility, while the coated one-piece polyester mast sleeve completes the clean freerace construction.
