North Wave Clear Windsurf Sail 2024–2025

A featherlight GEN2 wave sail with increased forward drive, improved high-wind stability, and instant response for aggressive turns, aerials, and critical wave riding.

The North Wave Clear Windsurf Sail 2024–2025 is the second generation of North’s molded 3Di wave sail. Its one-piece Dyneema Aramid construction combines with a Carbon Helix SL load path to create a light, lively sail with excellent profile control and minimal swing weight. Updated twist and shaping add forward drive through bottom turns, while improved top-end stability helps the sail remain composed through gusts, jumps, and powered wave conditions.

  • Wave GEN2 design
  • 3Di Dyneema Aramid construction
  • Carbon Helix SL load path
  • Low swing weight
  • Improved top-end stability
  • Sizes 3.3–5.6 m²

Why the Wave Clear GEN2 Works

Featherlight Wave Handling

The one-piece molded construction minimizes excess material and swing weight. The result is a sail that redirects quickly through bottom turns, cutbacks, aerials, loops, and fast transitions.

More Forward Drive

An updated twist pattern and a slightly deeper forward profile help generate useful drive without making the sail feel heavy. This supports early planing, front-foot pressure, and committed rail engagement through the bottom turn.

Improved High-Wind Stability

Refined profile control allows the Wave Clear to remain stable when powered. Gusts translate into controlled forward movement, helping the rider stay focused on board positioning and the next maneuver.

Fast Power-On / Power-Off Response

The sail powers up quickly when sheeted in and releases cleanly when opened. That rapid transition helps riders generate drive through the turn and then neutralize the sail for tight cutbacks and critical sections.

Key Features

3Di Molded Technology

North’s three-dimensional molding process creates the sail as a continuous structure instead of joining conventional broad panels. This enables precise control over sail shape, fiber orientation, and material thickness.

Dyneema Aramid Tape Material

Load-oriented Dyneema Aramid fibers produce a light, flexible, and responsive sail body. The engineered fiber layout helps translate wind pressure into controlled forward drive.

Carbon Helix SL Load Path

A carbon-fiber load path runs from tack to head, adding structure and a lively response in the hands. It supports fast power delivery while helping the profile remain stable through a broad wind range.

Double-Tunnel Batten Pockets

Integrated batten tunnels are reinforced with additional 3Di overlap from both sides. This double-tunnel construction helps protect the battens and pockets during demanding wave use.

Larger Clear Monofilm Window

The enlarged clear window improves visibility on the wave, making it easier to monitor approaching sections, water movement, other riders, and the landing area during jumps.

Coated Polyester Sleeve

A one-piece coated polyester mast sleeve provides a durable, clean interface with the mast while complementing the sail’s lightweight construction and straightforward rigging.

Integrated Material Reinforcements

Additional fibers are positioned in high-load and impact-prone areas without adding unnecessary material throughout the sail. This supports strength while preserving responsive handling.

Three- and Four-Batten Layouts

Sizes 3.3–4.7 use three battens for maximum agility and minimum swing weight. Sizes 5.2 and 5.6 use four battens to stabilize their larger, more powerful profiles.

Rock-It Batten Tensioner

North’s tool-free tensioner makes batten adjustment fast and convenient at the beach. Unlock, open, adjust, close, and lock without searching for a separate tool.

EZ Clew and EZ Downhaul Wave

The adaptable clew and accessible tack-pulley arrangement simplify setup. Low downhaul tension and North’s loop-loop-go system help make rigging quicker and more consistent.

North Wave Clear GEN2 Size and Rigging Guide

Choose your sail size based on rider weight, board size, wind strength, wave power, and whether you prefer additional drive or a smaller, more neutral handling feel.

Sail Size Best Use Mast Luff Extension Boom Battens Weight
3.3 m² Extreme-wind wave sailing and maximum control 340 cm RDM 347 cm 8 cm 142 / 145 cm 3 1.90 kg
3.7 m² Very strong wind and compact wave handling 340 cm RDM 361 cm 22 cm 148 / 152 cm 3 2.10 kg
4.2 m² High-wind wave sailing, jumps, and aerials 370 cm RDM 379 cm 10 cm 153 / 158 cm 3 2.30 kg
4.7 m² Versatile core wave size 370 / 400 cm RDM 401 cm 32 / 2 cm 161 / 166 cm 3 2.50 kg
5.2 m² Lighter-wind wave sailing with additional drive 400 cm RDM 418 cm 18 cm 165 / 171 cm 4 2.65 kg
5.6 m² Maximum low-end wave power and larger riders 430 cm RDM 435 cm 6 cm 171 / 178 cm 4 2.80 kg
Rigging note: Every Wave Clear GEN2 size uses an RDM mast and zero cams. The 4.7 can be rigged on either a 370 or 400 cm RDM mast using the corresponding extension setting. Always verify the specifications printed on your individual sail before rigging.
