What Is Wake Foiling?
Wake foiling is boat-powered hydrofoiling. Instead of riding on the surface like a wakeboard or wakesurf board, the hydrofoil lifts the board above the water so the rider can glide with less drag, smoother turns, and a completely different feeling behind the boat.
A wake foil setup is made from several important parts: the board, mast, fuselage, front wing, rear stabilizer, hardware, and sometimes a rope or safety gear. The right combination depends on rider weight, skill level, boat speed, wake size, water depth, and whether the goal is learning, family use, carving, pumping, or progression.
For beginners, the best wake foil gear usually has stable lift, forgiving control, and enough board size to make starts easier. As riders improve, they can move into smaller boards, faster front wings, surf-style foils, and more responsive setups for carving, pumping, and riding farther back on the wake.

How to Choose Wake Foil Gear
Beginner Foils
Start with easy lift
New wake foilers should usually start with a stable, easy-lift front wing that works at slower boat speeds and gives the rider time to react.
Boards
Use enough board
A stable board helps with starts, stance, and family sharing. Smaller boards are better once the rider is comfortable on foil.
Mast Length
Match depth and skill
Shorter masts can feel less intimidating for learning. Longer masts add room to ride through chop and turn more aggressively.
Progression
Upgrade the wing
Once riders control lift and speed, a faster or more surf-style front wing can improve carving, pumping, and glide.

For most beginners, we recommend stable lift and predictable control before chasing the smallest or fastest front wing. For intermediate and advanced riders, surf-style wings, smaller front wings, and higher-end board options can create a more responsive feel for carving and pumping behind the wake.
