The North Sonar Carbon Foil Mast delivers direct foil feedback and dependable stiffness through a refined one-piece pre-preg carbon construction. Its tapered profile is engineered for efficient load transfer and reduced surface friction, giving riders a responsive connection between the board and foil across multiple disciplines.

An integrated 165 × 90 mm mounting plate connects directly to compatible foil-board tracks, while North’s GeoLock tapered geometry creates a rigid, load-bearing mast-to-fuselage connection. Choose CF72 for surf, tow and shallower water, CF85 for all-around wing and open-water riding, or CF95 for high-speed kite, wing and race-oriented foiling.

Why Choose the Sonar Carbon Mast?

Direct Carbon Response

The stiff pre-preg carbon structure transfers rider input quickly to the foil. This provides immediate feedback when pumping, carving, changing direction or correcting ride height.

Tapered One-Piece Design

North’s refined one-piece construction is tapered for optimal load transfer and lower surface friction. It combines structural strength with a clean hydrodynamic profile suitable for surf, wing, kite and tow foiling.

GeoLock Connection

GeoLock uses tapered locking geometry to transfer loads across the mast’s full cross-section. The screws engage the connection, but the mating surfaces carry the riding loads, creating a stiff and durable mast-to-fuselage interface.

Integrated Board Mount

The carbon mast mounts directly to compatible foil-board tracks through its integrated top plate. No separate Sonar foil-board adapter is required for the CF mast.

Corrosion-Free Mast Structure

Carbon construction eliminates the corrosion concerns associated with an aluminum mast extrusion. Metal screws and connected components should still be rinsed, dried and periodically removed after saltwater use.

Modular Sonar Compatibility

The GeoLock base connects with compatible North Sonar carbon and aluminum fuselages. Riders can change fuselage, front wing and stabilizer configurations while retaining the same mast.

Our recommendation: CF72 is the specialist surf and shallow-water size. CF85 is the best choice for most wing and multi-discipline riders. CF95 is intended for experienced kite, race and high-speed riders who specifically need the additional clearance.

Sonar HM/UHM95–105 Foil racing and advanced high-speed kite or wing riding. Thin 12.5 mm profiles are designed for reduced drag and greater top-end speed. Premium specialist masts; North states the 95 and 105 cm HM/UHM models are not intended for jumping.
Choose standard CF for the best balance of carbon performance, durability and price. Choose aluminum for progression and value. Choose HM or UHM only when lower drag, additional stiffness and discipline-specific performance justify the higher cost.

Does the carbon mast require a board adapter?

No. The mast has an integrated 165 × 90 mm top plate and mounts directly to compatible foil-board tracks. The separate Sonar board adapter is used with North’s modular aluminum masts.

Which size is best for wing foiling?

CF85 is the best all-around wing choice. It provides enough ride height for chop, swell and banked turns without the extra weight and leverage of CF95.

Why choose CF instead of UHM?

Choose CF for excellent carbon performance at a lower price and with broader all-around durability. Choose UHM when reduced drag, pumping efficiency or maximum structural stiffness is worth the premium.

Is the mast completely corrosion-proof?

The carbon mast structure does not corrode like aluminum, but connected screws and metal fuselage components still require freshwater rinsing, drying and periodic disassembly after saltwater use.
