High-Stability Carbon Mast for Powered Foiling
Cedrus Evolution Wind Carbon Mast
Ventilation-resistant control, engineered stiffness and predictable handling for wing, kite, tow, parawing and high-speed downwind foiling.
The Cedrus Evolution Wind Carbon Mast is designed for riders who push harder, ride faster or need greater control in rough water. Its patented, longer-chord water-piercing region helps maintain attached water flow during high-speed turns, aggressive banking and powered upwind riding, reducing the risk of ventilation and sudden loss of control.
Although its name emphasizes wind-powered foiling, the Evolution Wind is also an excellent choice for tow foiling, big swell, powered downwind runs, course racing and parawing. Its progressive, locked-in feel makes it especially valuable when stability and predictable feedback matter more than achieving the absolute lowest pumping drag.

Why Choose the Evolution Wind?
High-Speed Stability
A 128 mm chord and 16 mm thickness through the water-piercing region help keep flow attached when riding fast, banking hard or heeling the board under wing or kite power. The result is a stable, confidence-inspiring ride in conditions where shorter-chord masts can become less forgiving.
Ventilation Resistance
Cedrus developed the Wind profile specifically to resist ventilation in chop, confused water and aggressive maneuvers. It is the better Cedrus carbon option when maintaining control through speed spikes is more important than minimizing every possible gram of low-speed drag.
Efficient Upper Profile
Above the water-piercing region, the profile changes to a shorter 118 mm chord and 20 mm thickness. This configuration adds structural stiffness while reducing drag during water starts and whenever the board is riding low on the mast.
Length-Specific Stiffness
The carbon layup and upper profile are engineered to maintain bending and torsional stiffness as mast length increases. Longer versions retain a connected feel under the additional leverage created by larger riders, powered foils and tall mast setups.
Improved Upwind Angles
The longer-chord piercing section develops useful lateral support, allowing the mast to point higher when powered by a wing, kite or parawing. Better upwind ability means more efficient positioning before downwind runs and more flexibility when planning a shuttle route.
Modular Foil Compatibility
Cedrus’s Evolution Adapter Interface connects the mast with a broad selection of foil systems through precision-machined adapters. Riders can change foil brands or fuselage platforms without automatically replacing the mast.

Evolution Wind vs. Similar Cedrus Masts
| Mast | Best For | Why Choose It | Primary Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Evolution Wind Carbon Powered Performance |
Wing, kite, tow, parawing, high-speed downwind and rough-water riding. | Best Cedrus option for high-speed stability, long lengths, upwind angles and resistance to ventilation. | Its longer chord creates slightly more drag than the Surf profile at low prone-foiling and pumping speeds. |
| Evolution Surf IM Carbon | Prone, SUP, surf and unpowered downwind foiling at lower speeds. | Lower wetted area, efficient pumping and quicker, more pivot-like surf turns at a lower price than Surf UHM. | Less stable and less ventilation resistant during aggressive powered riding. |
| Evolution Surf UHM Carbon | Larger riders, long-span foils and downwind racers who want maximum stiffness with the Surf profile. | Approximately 30% stiffer than Surf IM while retaining low-drag pumping characteristics. | UHM construction does not change the shorter-chord Surf hydrodynamics; Wind remains the better choice for powered speed and ventilation resistance. |
| Evolution Aluminum Forged | Riders wanting one versatile mast for wing, surf, downwind, pump and Foil Drive use. | Excellent stiffness, impact durability and broad all-around performance at a substantially lower price. | Heavier and less specialized than Wind Carbon for high-speed powered performance. |
| Evolution Aluminum Clydesdale | Very large, slow foils used for dock starts, pump foiling, wake and low-speed progression. | Maximum low-speed stiffness with 2 m-plus-span foils and an economical entry into the Evolution system. | More drag and less appropriate for fast wing, kite, tow or performance downwind riding. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Evolution Wind only for wing and kite foiling?
No. It is also well suited to tow foiling, big swell, powered downwind runs, racing and parawing. Choose it whenever speed, rough-water stability or ventilation resistance is more important than minimum low-speed pumping drag.
Does the Wind mast come in IM, HM or UHM options?
The current Windance listing offers one carbon construction rather than separate modulus choices. Cedrus tunes the mast’s profile and structural layup for the additional torsional loads created by powered riding and longer mast lengths.
Should I choose Surf or Wind in an 80–85 cm length?
Choose Surf for prone, SUP and unpowered downwind sessions where pumping glide and quick surf turns lead the decision. Choose Wind for wing, kite, parawing, tow, rough water and more predictable control at speed.
Is a longer mast always better?
No. Extra length increases swell clearance and banking freedom, but also adds leverage and can make starts more demanding. Select the shortest mast that provides enough clearance for your local chop, swell and riding style.
