2027 North Navigator Gen2 Control System – Short Throw

A shorter-reach Navigator control bar that brings the trim handle 10cm closer for smaller-framed riders and anyone who struggles to reach full depower comfortably.

The 2027 North Navigator Gen2 Short Throw Control System delivers the safety, durability and modular versatility of the standard Navigator in a more accessible 45–50cm configuration. Shortened bar travel places the trim handle 10cm closer to the rider, making it easier to sheet out fully and adjust power without overextending the arms or shifting out of a controlled riding position. The Short Throw includes North’s Connect V2 Quick Release, pre-stretched SK75 Dyneema lines, adjustable bar ends, modular InterLoop system and smooth manual line unwinding.

  • Trim handle positioned 10cm closer
  • Adjustable 45–50cm width
  • Recommended for kites up to 12m
  • Connect V2 Quick Release
  • 22m SK75 Dyneema lines
  • Freeride Loop and leash included

Why Choose the Navigator Short Throw?

Trim Within Easy Reach

The shorter center system brings the trim handle 10cm closer than the standard Navigator. Smaller riders can adjust power without stretching excessively or releasing their preferred stance.

Comfortable Full Depower Reach

Reduced bar travel keeps the fully sheeted-out position closer to the rider. This can improve control for riders whose arms cannot comfortably reach the end of a standard depower throw.

Medium Adjustable Bar Width

The 45–50cm adjustable width suits a broad range of small and medium kite sizes. Rotating the bar-end cassettes lets you choose a more measured or more responsive steering feel.

Complete Navigator Performance

The Short Throw retains the standard Navigator’s Connect V2 safety system, modular loops, comfortable grip, SK75 lines, smooth cleated trim and strong internal bar construction.

Kite-size limit: North recommends pairing the Short Throw with kites 12m and smaller to maintain sufficient depower in high wind. Reduced throw means less total bar travel than the standard Navigator.

Who Benefits from a Short Throw Control Bar?

Smaller-Framed Riders

Riders with a shorter arm span can reach the bar and trim handle more comfortably while maintaining a balanced stance and secure connection to the harness.

Youth and Lightweight Riders

The shorter reach can improve control for younger or lighter riders who find a conventional center system physically oversized, provided the kite and equipment are appropriate for their ability.

Riders with Limited Reach

Anyone who must lean forward, rotate their shoulders or release their stance to reach the standard trim handle may benefit from the more accessible Short Throw layout.

Riders Seeking a Compact Cockpit

The reduced reach creates a compact connection between the rider and kite, helping keep trim adjustments and depower control within a comfortable working range.

45–50cm Adjustable Bar Width

Narrow Setting

The 45cm setting reduces steering leverage for smaller, faster-turning kites. It provides more measured steering input and can help the kite feel less reactive in stronger wind.

Wide Setting

The 50cm setting increases steering leverage for a faster turning response. It is useful with larger compatible kites or when the rider prefers more active steering.

To change the width, remove both bar-end cassettes, rotate them 180 degrees and reinstall them securely. Both sides must be placed in matching positions.

Connect V2 Safety System

Safe Connect V2 Quick Release

The Connect V2 uses an extra-secure single-action reload system designed for dependable operation and straightforward resetting after activation.

Stiffer Security Finger

A firmer security finger helps retain the loop when riding hooked in. The updated design is intended to reduce the risk of accidental unhooking or unintended release.

Compact Freeride Loop

The smaller Connect V2 loop keeps the rider connection compact and provides 20mm of additional bar travel within the Short Throw system.

Spinning Leash Ring

The elongated oval leash ring makes the leash carabiner easier to attach and rotates to help prevent the landing line from twisting.

Safety reminder: Practice activating and reloading the quick release on land. Inspect the release, security finger, leash, landing line and flying lines before every session.

Navigator Gen2 Construction and Control

Fiber-Filled Internal Truss

Technology derived from the Navigator Pro reinforces the bar’s internal structure. The fiber-filled polymer truss keeps weight low while increasing stiffness by 20% for direct steering feedback.

Triple-Comfort EVA Grip

Rubberized EVA provides a secure, cushioned hold with improved abrasion resistance. A tactile offset finger ridge helps the rider identify correct bar orientation without looking.

SK75 Liros Dyneema Lines

Strong, pre-stretched 1.8mm flying lines deliver dependable load capacity and performance longevity. Their construction is designed to resist uneven shrinkage over time.

Smoother Cleated Trim System

An updated power bracket allows smoother on-demand trimming while reducing line wear. The circular cleat base supports consistent bar rotation.

Effortless Manual Unwind

The center system is designed for smooth manual line unwinding after rotations. The standard Short Throw does not automatically untwist the front lines.

Tactile Bar Orientation

Visual color separation and the offset finger reference help riders recognize the correct orientation quickly during relaunches, transitions and demanding conditions.

Customizable Flying-Line Length

Configuration Total Length General Effect
12m + 10m 22m Included
All-around power delivery and familiar kite response
12m + 8m 20m Quicker response with a slightly smaller wind window

12m + 2m 14m Short-line configuration for training and specialized applications

The 22m line set is included. Compatible 8m, 6m and 2m upper line sections are sold separately. Shorter lines reduce the wind window and can significantly change kite power and handling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much shorter is the Navigator Short Throw?

The shortened center system positions the trim handle 10cm closer to the rider than the standard Navigator, reducing the reach required for trimming and full depower.

Why is it limited to kites 12m and smaller?

Shorter bar travel reduces the total sheeting range. North recommends kites 12m and smaller so the system retains sufficient depower capability in high wind.

Is the bar width adjustable?

Yes. The bar adjusts between 45cm and 50cm by removing and rotating the bar-end cassettes 180 degrees.

Does the Short Throw automatically untwist the lines?

No. The Navigator Gen2 Short Throw provides smooth manual line unwinding. Automatic front-line untwisting is a Navigator Pro feature.

How long are the included lines?

The package includes 22m lines divided into 12m lower sections and removable 10m upper sections. The SK75 Dyneema lines have a 1.8mm diameter.

Is the Freeride Loop included?

Yes. A Connect V2 Freeride Loop and North Standard Leash are included. Compatible Freestyle and Surf Slider loops are sold separately.

Is this bar only for children?

No. It is suitable for any rider who benefits from a shorter reach, including smaller adults and riders who cannot comfortably access a standard trim handle.

What changed for 2027?

The 2027 model receives the Connect V2 Quick Release, a fiber-filled internal truss with increased stiffness, improved grip durability and a smoother updated trim bracket.
