The 2026 Ezzy Wave comes in sizes from 2.8 to 6.3 m². The Ezzy Cross covers 2.8 to 8.0 m², so it gives riders more room to build a mixed setup.
North offers the Wave GEN3 from 3.3 to 5.6 m². The Freespeed GEN2 comes in sizes from 4.5 to 8.6 m².
The Cheetah is a cam-free freeride sail made for speed and steady power. North’s Freespeed GEN2 also skips cams and uses the brand’s 3Di construction.
If you sail in the Gorge, a crossover sail can be handy when the wind changes during the day.
What Size Windsurf Sail Do You Need?
Your weight is a good place to start, but it is not the only factor. Wind strength, board size, skill, and water conditions can all change the size you need.

A heavier sailor will often need more sail area in the same wind. Lighter riders can usually get enough power from a smaller sail.

How to Match Booms, Masts, and Chinook Rigging
You do not need to use one brand for every part of your rig. Mixed setups are common. The main thing is making sure the sizes and fittings line up.

What size windsurf sail do I need for my weight?
Start with your weight and the wind you normally sail in. Bigger riders often need a little more sail area to get the same power. Your board size and skill level also change what feels comfortable. Use the chart above as a guide, then compare it with the sail maker’s own sizing notes.
Are North carbon booms compatible with non-North masts?
Yes, some North carbon booms can work with masts from other brands. The North Ultimate Carbon Boom Wave fits RDM masts when used with the correct shim. It also fits MDM and SDM masts. Check the mast diameter and boom length before you rig.
What is the best all-around Ezzy sail for intermediate windsurfers?
The Ezzy Cross is a good choice if you like to mix different types of sailing. It works for regular windsurfing as well as wind foiling. It also suits freeride and bump-and-jump sessions. If freeride speed matters more to you, the Cheetah may be the better pick.
What is the difference between the Ezzy Wave and North Wave GEN3?
Both are made for wave sailing, but they are built in different ways. The Ezzy Wave uses a panel-built design and includes rigging marks to help with setup. North uses its 3Di construction on the Wave GEN3. Your mast, preferred sail feel, and needed sizes can help narrow the choice.
Can one boom work with several windsurf sails?
Yes, and many riders use one boom across several sails. The boom needs to cover the listed length for each sail you plan to rig. Its head must also fit the mast diameter. Check both before assuming one boom will cover the whole quiver.
Can I use a Chinook mast base with a North sail?
Yes. The sail brand does not decide which mast base you use. The base needs to fit your board and connect correctly to the extension. A US Cup base needs a US Cup extension, while Euro-Pin parts need the matching fitting.
