F-One FRIGATE Parawing

Ride upwind efficiently, stash the wing and enjoy long downwind runs with both hands free.

The F-One FRIGATE is a high-performance single-skin parawing built for riders who want speed, efficiency and complete freedom during long downwind foil runs. Its aerodynamic profile generates immediate forward pull and excellent upwind drive, while F-One’s Dynamic Bridle System maintains canopy tension as the wing is powered or depowered. Once you reach the swell, the compact canopy can be stashed so you can focus entirely on the foil and the bumps ahead.

  • Best for: Long downwind runs
  • Rider level: Intermediate to advanced
  • Exceptional upwind efficiency
  • Carbon bar and harness line included
  • Sizes: 1.9–6.5m

Why Choose the FRIGATE?

Choose the FRIGATE if you are an established foiler who prioritizes fast upwind travel, strong low-end power and complete freedom after stashing the wing. It is particularly well suited to long downwinders, open-water exploration and riders who want to use smaller, faster foils without giving up reliable power for takeoff.

Compared with F-One’s more progression-oriented QUEST, the FRIGATE delivers more speed and greater upwind efficiency. Compared with the inflatable PLUME K-Wing, it packs into a much smaller space and can be fully stashed for hands-free swell riding.

Windance recommendation: Pick the FRIGATE when performance and autonomy matter most. Its immediate power, efficient acceleration and excellent upwind angle make it the stronger F-One option for experienced riders planning longer downwind missions.

How the FRIGATE Rides

Immediate Low-End Power

The FRIGATE develops consistent forward traction with relatively little rider effort. That immediate power helps accelerate the board, build apparent wind and reach takeoff speed efficiently.

Exceptional Upwind Drive

A stiff leading edge, optimized canopy tension and reduced bridle drag help the FRIGATE convert power into forward speed. It points high and travels upwind quickly, leaving more time and energy for the downwind run.

Stable When Depowered

The Dynamic Bridle System automatically manages different areas of the canopy as the wing is sheeted in or out. This reduces folds and keeps the FRIGATE stable and predictable across its wind range.

Direct Carbon-Bar Control

The lightweight vertical carbon bar has a small diameter and comfortable EVA grip. Steering feels precise and natural, including during one-handed riding or when adjusting your stance.

Quick Depower and Stashing

A dedicated stash handle is positioned within arm’s reach. It provides a clear place to depower and gather the parawing before placing it into a compatible stash belt.

Wide Usable Wind Range

The FRIGATE combines constant low-end pull with controlled high-end behavior. Eight sizes cover reference wind ranges from approximately 10 knots to more than 34 knots.

Dynamic Bridle System

F-One’s pulley-free Dynamic Bridle System automatically adjusts canopy tension as the rider sheets the FRIGATE in or out. Different bridles engage according to the wing’s position, maintaining a cleaner profile without requiring manual adjustment.

  • Cleaner canopy shape: Better tension control reduces wrinkles and unnecessary deformation.
  • Improved upwind performance: A stable, efficient profile converts pull into forward acceleration.
  • Better low- and high-end control: The bridle system adapts naturally as power is added or released.
  • No pulleys: The simplified layout reduces added weight and potential points of entanglement.
  • Short, color-coded bridles: Matching colors on the bar, A bridles and leading edge make orientation easier to identify.

Premium Single-Skin Construction

The FRIGATE does not use the Dacron, HITEX or ALUULA inflatable airframe found in a conventional wing. Instead, it uses a lightweight single-skin canopy supported by a carefully engineered bridle structure.

  • Porcher canopy fabric: Premium paragliding-grade material selected for its lightness, rigidity and durability.
  • Water-resistant construction: The Porcher material absorbs very little water, helping the wing remain manageable and easier to relaunch after a fall.
  • LIROS bridles: Sheathed lines with low stretch, abrasion resistance and carefully selected stiffness.
  • Mini-ribs and D-ribs: Internal structure gives the aerodynamic profile greater definition while reducing the total number of bridles.
  • Carbon vertical bar: A lightweight, direct control system with ergonomic EVA grip.
Weight advantage: Depending on size, the complete FRIGATE and bar weigh approximately 0.43–0.93kg—substantially less and more compact than an inflatable wing.

Carbon Bar and Harness Line

Each FRIGATE includes the appropriate F-One vertical carbon bar. Sizes 1.9–4.0m use the compact 29cm bar, while sizes 4.7–6.5m use the longer 41cm bar for improved leverage and control.

A low-profile mono-harness line is also included. Its attachment position can be moved along the front of the bar between the A and B line positions:

  • Move toward the A lines: Reduces generated power for stronger wind.
  • Move toward the B lines: Increases traction for lighter wind.
  • Single attachment point: Creates precise steering while keeping the system compact and less prone to tangling.

Best Uses

Long Downwind Runs

The FRIGATE is at its best when you have time to stash the canopy and enjoy an extended hands-free ride through open-water bumps and swell.

Upwind/Downwind Missions

Its excellent upwind angle makes it possible to gain ground efficiently before turning around and riding the swell back to your starting point.

Wave and Swell Foiling

Once the parawing is safely stored, both hands are free and there is no inflated wing interfering with carving, pumping or connecting bumps.

Light-Wind Parawinging

The 5.5m and 6.5m extend the FRIGATE into lighter conditions, with F-One listing a low-end reference of approximately 10 knots for the 6.5m.

Rider level: The FRIGATE is best for intermediate to advanced foilers. F-One recommends moving to a pocket wing once you can freefly an inflatable wing for several hundred meters without relying on its power.

FRIGATE vs. QUEST vs. PLUME

Feature FRIGATE QUEST PLUME
Design Performance single-skin pocket wing Accessible single-skin pocket wing Hybrid K-Wing with a small inflatable leading edge
Best for Fast upwind travel and long downwind runs Parawing progression, comfort and easy stashing Freefly, freeride and shorter wave rides
Power delivery Immediate, efficient and performance focused Smooth, forgiving and easy to control Gentle forward pull with a light handheld feel
Upwind performance Highest of the three Efficient, but prioritizes comfort over maximum angle Comparable to a conventional inflatable wing
Stashing Fully stowable; best when packed for longer rides Shortest lines and Pack Assist make stashing easier Usually freeflown; can be deflated for longer downwind runs
Control system 29cm or 41cm carbon bar with Dynamic Bridle System Shorter ergonomic bar with Double Dynamic Bridle System 41cm vertical bar, minimal bridles and wrist leash
Choose it when You prioritize speed, low-end power, precision and autonomy You want the easiest F-One pocket wing for learning and progression You want simpler freefly transitions without fully packing after every glide
