Kite Foiling • Zero Struts • Maximum Drift • Light Wind
2024 Slingshot UFO V3 Kiteboarding Kite
An ultra-light, zero-strut inflatable kite created for efficient foiling, effortless drift and fast power generation in minimal wind.
The 2024 Slingshot UFO V3 is a purpose-built kite-foiling kite for riders who want the kite to stay light, responsive and almost invisible while they focus on the foil. Its zero-strut airframe eliminates unnecessary structure and drag, while the lower-aspect Compact Swept C shape delivers fast pivoting turns, exceptional drift and immediate power control.
FlexLITE high-tenacity polyester, a lightweight 2X2 Flyweight canopy and low-drag TrimFlight bridle help the UFO remain airborne through deep lulls. It can quickly generate apparent wind through loops, then shed power cleanly once the foil accelerates.

Why Choose This Kite?
Choose the UFO V3 if kite foiling is your main discipline and you value minimum drag, maximum drift and light-wind efficiency more than jumping performance or rigid canopy support. It stays light in the sky, follows the rider through downwind transitions and responds quickly when looped to generate power.
Compared with the one-strut Ghost V3, the UFO removes the center strut for even less weight and drag. Compared with the three-strut SST V7 and Code V2, it feels lighter, drifts more freely and requires less input while foiling—but gives up structural support, conventional twin-tip performance, boosting and extended hangtime.
Best Uses and Rider Level
Kite Foiling
This is the UFO V3’s primary discipline. Low drag, efficient upwind travel, fast power generation and exceptional drift make it ideal for freeride foiling, carving and transitions.
Light Wind
The zero-strut structure and light canopy help the kite remain airborne through marginal wind. Larger 8–11m sizes are especially suited to efficient hydrofoils and light-wind foil sessions.
Foil-Oriented Wave Riding
Its drift allows riders to follow swell and ride toward the kite with minimal correction. For powered surfboard riding and rougher wave conditions, the three-strut SST V7 provides more canopy support.
Foil Progression
Smooth power delivery and clean depower help prevent over-foiling. It is a strong progression kite for an already independent kiteboarder learning to foil, but it is not the best first kite for a complete beginner.
Big Air and Freestyle
Not recommended as a Big Air or powered freestyle kite. The zero-strut design prioritizes drift and efficiency rather than explosive boosting, canopy support, pop or long hangtime.
Foil Racing
Efficient and capable of strong upwind angles, but not a dedicated high-aspect race kite. The UFO favors accessible freeride handling, carving and drift over maximum competitive course-racing speed.
Turning, Bar Pressure and Flight Characteristics
- Turning speed: Fast and highly responsive, with a compact pivot that makes it easy to loop the kite and create apparent wind during foil starts or lulls.
- Bar pressure: Light and immediate in character. Slingshot’s Rider Customization System can adjust bar pressure, turning response, power and angle of attack.
- Power delivery: Smooth and easy to regulate. The kite can produce power rapidly through movement, then shed it cleanly as foil speed increases.
- Depower: Quick and effective for controlling foil lift. The Compact Swept C shape responds immediately to sheeting changes and helps reduce over-foiling.
- Drift: Exceptional and the defining reason to choose the UFO. It remains light when the rider moves toward it or creates temporary slack in the lines.
- Upwind performance: The low-drag airframe and bridle help the kite reach efficient angles, particularly when paired with a hydrofoil.
- Boost and hangtime: Limited compared with a supported three- or five-strut freeride kite. The UFO can provide lift through foil transitions but is not designed for powered jumping.
Relaunch and Light-Wind Handling
Zero-strut kites can be difficult to relaunch if their shape is not carefully designed. Slingshot addresses this with swept wingtips and a Compact Swept C canopy that encourages the kite to rotate onto a wingtip instead of remaining flat on the water.
Relaunch is dependable for a zero-strut kite when there is enough wind to maintain line tension. Near the extreme low end, however, any inflatable kite becomes harder to relaunch and an unsupported canopy can collect water. The lowest published numbers should therefore be treated as foil-oriented reference points—not guaranteed relaunch limits.
Construction and Technology
Zero-Strut Airframe
Removing all canopy struts reduces weight and nearly eliminates strut drag. This allows the kite to remain responsive and airborne in lighter wind while maximizing drift.
FlexLITE Leading Edge
The inflatable leading edge uses 140g/m² high-tenacity polyester with an open 1:1 thread orientation. It is designed to flex under input for quicker steering and efficient apparent-wind generation.
2X2 Flyweight Canopy
Reinforced 2X2 ripstop construction saves weight compared with Slingshot’s heavier 4X4 canopy while retaining stiffness, tear resistance and stretch resistance.
Compact Swept C Shape
A lower-aspect, compact arc produces fast pivoting turns, immediate power management and strong drift. Swept wingtips also improve water-relaunch behavior.
TrimFlight Bridle
Bridle lines are 25% thinner to reduce parasitic drag. Their geometry complements the kite’s compact shape and supports efficient, responsive foil-specific handling.
Rider Customization System
Multiple bridle and flying-line connection settings allow riders to tune turning speed, power, angle of attack and bar pressure for their preferred foil setup and conditions.
FlexLITE vs Dacron and ALUULA
The UFO V3 does not use ALUULA. FlexLITE is Slingshot’s lightweight 140g/m² high-tenacity polyester airframe material. It belongs to the conventional polyester—or broadly described Dacron—airframe category, but it is engineered with a more open thread orientation to flex and respond under rider input.
- Compared with heavier conventional Dacron: FlexLITE reduces weight and drag while allowing faster, more responsive steering.
- Compared with ALUULA: FlexLITE is less rigid and does not offer the same premium stiffness-to-weight ratio, but it is more affordable and its controlled flex suits the UFO’s foil-specific behavior.
- Compared with a supported airframe: Zero struts provide superior lightness and drift, while one- and three-strut kites retain more canopy shape during hard loading, jumping and rough conditions.
Although it is commonly called a “foil kite,” the UFO is an inflatable leading-edge kite designed for hydrofoil riding. It is not a closed-cell or open-cell ram-air foil kite.
What Changed for the UFO V3?
- Lighter FlexLITE frame: The V3 uses 140g/m² high-tenacity polyester to reduce airframe weight and improve steering response.
- Lower-drag bridle: TrimFlight bridle lines are 25% thinner, improving efficiency and reducing drag.
- Flyweight canopy: The 2X2 reinforced ripstop canopy prioritizes minimum weight without abandoning tear and stretch resistance.
- Expanded sizing: The V3 range includes a 10m option between the 9m and 11m for more precise light-wind quiver spacing.
- Minimalist storage: A lightweight zipperless roll-top bag complements the compact zero-strut design.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the UFO V3 suitable for beginners?
It is not the best kite for learning basic kiteboarding skills. It is better for an independent rider learning or progressing on a hydrofoil. The Ghost V3 or Code V2 provides a more conventional, supported feel for general progression.
Can I use the UFO V3 with a twin tip?
It can pull a twin tip when sufficiently powered, but that is not its intended use. A Code V2 will provide better canopy support, boosting, hangtime and all-around twin-tip performance.
Does a zero-strut kite relaunch?
Yes. The UFO’s swept wingtips and Compact Swept C shape are specifically designed to help it rotate and relaunch. Relaunch becomes more difficult near the extreme light-wind limit, especially if water collects on the canopy.
Is FlexLITE the same as ALUULA?
No. FlexLITE is a lightweight high-tenacity polyester airframe material. ALUULA is a separate premium composite with greater stiffness at a very low weight.
Should I choose the UFO V3 or Ghost V3?
Choose the UFO for dedicated foiling, minimum drag and maximum drift. Choose the one-strut Ghost for broader freeride, surfboard and foil versatility with more canopy support and conventional handling.
Is the UFO V3 a ram-air foil kite?
No. It is a zero-strut inflatable leading-edge kite designed for riding a hydrofoil. The leading edge is inflated, while the canopy has no supporting struts.
