The 2024 North Carve is a dedicated three-strut wave and strapless freestyle kite built to stay balanced while you surf toward it, redirect quickly through tight turns and depower without becoming unresponsive. North completely redesigned the Carve for 2024 with a lower-aspect shape, smaller leading edge, lighter wingtips and more sweep. The result is faster steering, lighter bar pressure, improved drift and less unwanted pull across the wave face.

Choose the Carve when wave riding and strapless control are more important than maximum Big Air performance or one-kite freeride versatility.
The Carve is designed to let the rider concentrate on the wave instead of constantly correcting the kite. It provides direct steering feedback, quick pivot turns and excellent drift whether the bar is sheeted in or out. The progressive bar stroke helps reduce pull through bottom turns while keeping enough rear-line response to reposition the kite for the next section.
Compared with the North Reach, the Carve turns more tightly, drifts more naturally and produces less unwanted pull on the wave face. Compared with the Code Zero, it offers more structural support for powered surf and strapless jumping. It is also much more wave-focused than the Orbit, which prioritizes high-aspect efficiency, boosting and hangtime.

Wave Riding
Wave riding is the Carve’s primary discipline. Its low-aspect outline, static balance and light construction help it follow the rider down the line without nose-diving. Fast pivot steering allows quick redirection for bottom turns, cutbacks and late hits.
Strapless Freestyle

Freeride

Kite Foiling
Strong drift and responsive depower make the Carve useful for foiling, especially if the same kite will also be used for surf. The lighter single-strut Code Zero remains the more efficient North option for dedicated foil and marginal-wind sessions.
Big Air, Racing and Light Wind
The Carve provides respectable recreational boost and improved low-end power, but it is not a Big Air or racing kite. Choose the Orbit for maximum height and hangtime, or a race-specific foil kite for racing. The 12m and 13m cover lighter-wind surf and freeride, but they are not dedicated ultra-light-wind designs.

Turning Speed
The 2024 Carve turns faster and initiates earlier than the previous generation. Its segmented curved arc, thin wingtips and centered draft produce tight pivot turns without an abrupt surge of power. This lets riders redirect the kite quickly without being pulled off the wave.
Bar Pressure
Bar pressure is light but direct enough to locate the kite without looking at it. Two rear-line attachment settings adjust steering impulse. The point closest to the wingtip creates the lightest, most forgiving feel; the forward point increases pressure, directness and steering response.
Progressive Depower
A longer bar stroke produces progressive depower rather than an abrupt on-off response. Pressure increases as the bar moves closer to the rider, providing smooth feedback through the entire range. The kite remains responsive after sheeting out, which is important when depowering through a turn.
Relaunch
Added leading-edge sweep and useful canopy area through the center help the Carve roll onto a wingtip and release from the water quickly. Easy relaunch is especially valuable in waves, where getting the kite airborne before the next set can protect both rider and equipment.
Drift
Drift is the Carve’s defining strength. Its statically balanced structure resists nose-diving and continues following the rider while sheeted in or out. This works in both down-the-line and onshore waves, where line tension changes rapidly.

N-HTRS Canopy
North’s N-HTRS high-tenacity polyester ripstop canopy is designed for low weight, tear resistance, low porosity and long-term profile stability. Refined transition panels maintain a clean aerodynamic shape close to the leading edge.
Lighter Reinforcement
North removed unnecessary weight while retaining reinforcement in high-load areas. Two-ply canopy reinforcement along the trailing edge allows the kite to twist more naturally, while Dacron remains at the wingtips for durability.
17% Lighter Bladder Material
All sizes use bladder material that North states is 17% lighter than the previous bladder material. Reducing weight at the front of the kite improves static balance, low-wind behavior, steering response and drift.
Low-Drag Pulley-Free Bridle
Pre-loaded and measured bridle lines reduce shrinkage and elongation. Removing pulleys lowers drag and moving parts while producing a direct, precise connection between the control bar and kite.
Lower-Aspect Wave Shape
