2025 North Wing Foil Wing

2025 North Mode Pro Wing

Premium high-speed performance for racing, powered freeride and big air.

The 2025 North Mode Pro is a stiff, lightweight performance wing designed to turn wind energy into forward speed. Its premium N-Weave45 airframe, low-stretch Matrix canopy and Carbon UDi-reinforced leading edge create direct power delivery, rapid acceleration and exceptional stability at the top of the wind range.

Built primarily for speed, the Mode Pro is equally rewarding for powered freeriding, racing, jumping and freestyle. Its stiff structure generates explosive boost and hangtime, while the VMG-optimized profile helps riders point higher upwind and maintain efficient forward momentum through lulls and landings.

Why Choose This Wing?

Maximum Speed and Efficiency

Choose the Mode Pro if you want to ride fast, cover distance efficiently and improve your upwind and downwind VMG. Its thin entry profile and stiff frame convert gusts into forward acceleration with minimal structural deflection.

Exceptional High-End Stability

The N-Weave45 airframe and low-stretch Matrix canopy help the wing hold its designed shape when fully powered. This creates dependable control in strong or gusty conditions.

Explosive Boost and Hangtime

The rigid structure transfers rider input directly into lift. Fast acceleration and strong canopy tension provide the speed, boost and loft needed for high jumps and powered freestyle.

Custom ShiftLock Control

North’s modular track lets you position separate carbon handles, a J-Handle or a carbon boom according to your reach and riding style. The system creates a personalized control setup without permanently fixed handle positions.

Windance recommendation: Choose the Mode Pro if speed, racing, powered freeride or big air are your priorities. Choose the Nova Pro for more balanced freeride and wave versatility, or the standard Nova for easier handling and an included boom.

Performance by Riding Style

Riding Style Suitability How It Rides
Speed and Racing Excellent VMG-optimized efficiency, rapid acceleration and strong high-end stability suit fast upwind and downwind riding.
Performance Freeride Excellent Direct power and sustained speed reward riders who enjoy charging, riding powered and covering distance.
Big Air and Freestyle Excellent The stiff frame produces explosive boost, strong hangtime and forward momentum through landings.
Light Wind Very Good The 4.8–6.5m² sizes are optimized for greater power in lighter air, but the Loft Pro remains North’s dedicated marginal-wind wing.
Wave and Freefly Good The compact outline and rounded tips improve maneuverability, but the Nova Pro has more neutral trailering and wave-focused balance.
Beginner Progression Not Recommended The highly stiff, direct and fast response is better suited to experienced riders. The standard Nova is easier and more forgiving.

Premium Construction and Technology

N-Weave45 Airframe

North’s high-tensile woven airframe uses a 45-degree laminate to control biaxial and torsional movement. Compared with a standard Dacron frame, it produces a stiffer and lighter structure with more efficient power transfer.

Matrix Canopy

The high-tenacity Matrix canopy is engineered to support the increased tension of the N-Weave45 airframe. Low stretch improves shape retention, aerodynamic stability and wind range.

Carbon UDi Leading Edge

Anti-deflection unidirectional carbon tapes run inside the leading edge, improving structural snapback and creating a faster, more direct response during pumping, acceleration and maneuvers.

Radiate Panel Layout

Radial geometric canopy panels and load diffusers align material with major load directions. This distributes tension more evenly, reduces distortion and supports cleaner aerodynamic flow.

VMG-Optimized Profile

Thinner forward profile sections reduce drag, while additional depth through the center creates power and lift. The result is efficient speed and improved distance made good toward the next upwind or downwind mark.

Compact Lower-Aspect Outline

A reduced wingspan and rounded wingtips lower the risk of tip strikes while maintaining the powerful, stable platform needed for high-speed riding.

Connected Dual Inflation Valves

Separate leading-edge and strut valves are connected by a hose and clip, allowing North to optimize pressure while retaining convenient single-point inflation and deflation.

Gybe-Friendly Windows

Strategic window positioning improves visibility during gybes, transitions and busy sessions without excessively interrupting canopy structure.

N-Weave45 vs. Dacron or ALUULA

Construction Typical Feel Why Choose It?
N-Weave45 — Mode Pro Very stiff, lightweight and direct, with limited deflection and strong torsional control. Choose it for premium speed, efficient power delivery, high-end stability and big-air performance.
Dacron — Standard Nova More forgiving and less direct, with easier all-around handling. Choose it for accessibility, durability, relaxed freeride and an included fixed carbon boom.
ALUULA Very light and stiff composite construction used by some other wing designs. The Mode Pro does not use ALUULA. North achieves its premium stiffness with N-Weave45 and internal Carbon UDi reinforcement.
Pro construction explained: The Mode Pro’s advantage over a standard Dacron wing is its stiffer N-Weave45 structure, reinforced leading edge and Matrix canopy. This improves speed and control, but also creates a more demanding and less forgiving ride.

Which North Wing Should You Choose?

North Model Best For Choose It Instead When...
Mode Pro High-speed freeride, racing, big air and powered freestyle You want premium stiffness and speed without moving to a specialized double-skin race wing.
Mode Ultra Dedicated racing and maximum aerodynamic efficiency You need the partial double-skin design, race-specific VMG performance and included GripLock boom.
Nova Pro Premium all-around freeride, surf and freestyle You want N-Weave45 performance with better trailering, wave balance and all-around versatility.
Nova Beginner progression and easy all-around freeride You prefer a forgiving Dacron airframe, intuitive handling and a fixed GripLock carbon boom included with the wing.
Loft Pro Dedicated light-wind wing foiling Your main priority is getting on foil in approximately 6–16 knots with a 6.0, 7.0 or 8.0m² wing.

Official Sizes and Wind Ranges

Wing Size Wingspan Manufacturer Wind Range Suggested Use
3.5m² 275cm / 9'0" 22–36+ knots Strong-wind speed, big air and powered freestyle
4.2m² 299cm / 9'10" 16–33 knots High-wind performance and fast freeride
4.8m² 321cm / 10'6" 13–31 knots Versatile performance freeride and racing
5.5m² 330cm / 10'10" 9–24 knots Medium-to-light wind with efficient speed and power
6.5m² 342cm / 11'3" 7–21 knots Light-wind power for experienced riders

North does not publish finished wing weights in the official 2025 Mode Pro size chart. Wind ranges are manufacturer guidance only; rider weight, foil size, board volume, experience and local conditions affect the usable range.

ShiftLock Handles or Boom?

The Mode Pro uses North’s ShiftLock modular track system. Handles and boom are sold separately and can be moved along the strut to customize reach, balance and hand position.

Separate Carbon Handles

ShiftLock handles are available in 250, 400 and 500mm lengths. Separate handles provide targeted hand positions and a direct connection for racing, pumping and powered freeride.

400mm Carbon J-Handle

The curved front J-Handle creates a more natural wrist angle and comfortable pistol grip. It can be paired with any compatible ShiftLock rear handle.

950 or 1100mm Carbon Boom

A boom allows continuous hand movement and easier hand changes during tacks, gybes and tricks. It is also North’s lightest ShiftLock control configuration because it uses two mounting points instead of four.

Which Setup Should You Choose?

Choose separate handles for defined grip positions and precise feedback. Choose a boom for unrestricted hand placement, freestyle and easier transitions. North recommends a 1100mm boom or two 500mm handles for wings 6.0m² and larger.

Compatibility warning: Use ShiftLock controls only. North’s fixed GripLock boom is not compatible with the Mode Pro’s ShiftLock track.
