2026 North Ranger + F-One Rocket Free DW Parawing & Board Package
Compact pack-away power paired with stable downwind glide.
Built for riders who want to use the wind for takeoff and then surf the swell hands-free, this package pairs the single-skin 2026 North Ranger with the stable, efficient F-One ROCKET FREE DOWNWIND. The Ranger delivers responsive bar control and packs into its on-water backpack once you are flying. The FREE DW adds the length, glide and supportive shape needed to build speed through demanding parawing starts. Choose your Ranger and board sizes; a waist-mounted coiled board leash completes the package.
- Ranger: 3.2 / 4.2m
- FREE DW: 85 / 95L
- 40GSM single-skin canopy
- Waist board leash included
- Hydrofoil sold separately
Best for: intermediate and experienced foilers focused on dedicated downwind runs, efficient takeoffs and hands-free swell riding. This is the most stable and glide-oriented Ranger board pairing in the package lineup. Choose the Rover + FREE DW package instead when broader freeride use and stronger upwind performance are more important.
Why Choose This Parawing Package?
Designed to disappear after takeoff
The Ranger’s single-skin canopy, extra-short bridles and included on-water backpack create a compact system that can be collapsed and stored once you are on foil.
More support during difficult starts
The FREE DW’s stretched waterline, wider nose, increased thickness and squarer rails add glide and stability when the water is choppy or the available power is limited.
Responsive bar control
A lightweight carbon bar responds to subtle steering input, while D-Ribs stabilize the canopy and the Depower Tab helps collapse it during retrieval or powered conditions.
Foil-friendly leash placement
The North Waist Board Leash keeps the coiled cord above the water, helping reduce drag while keeping it farther from your feet and foil.

| North Waist Board Leash | One adjustable, neoprene-lined waist belt with a fixed 6ft coiled PU board leash. |
Not included: hydrofoil, foil-to-board mounting hardware, boardbag, helmet, personal flotation or impact vest, communication and visibility equipment.
Why the Ranger and FREE DW Work Together
The Ranger is designed to provide the pull needed to access a downwind run without leaving you holding a conventional inflatable wing once you reach the swell. Its compact canopy works especially well with a board that can turn that pull into speed efficiently. The FREE DW supplies that missing foundation through its long waterline, optimized volume and stable rail geometry.
A rear step and kicktail help the board release and preserve speed through light touchdowns, while the shallow cockpit keeps the rider connected to the foil. Once airborne, the Ranger can be collapsed into its on-water backpack so the board and foil are free to follow bumps without a wing in your hands.
This is a purposeful downwind pairing rather than a general learn-to-foil package. It prioritizes easier parawing takeoffs, glide and freefly stability over the tighter surf turns of the FREE SURF or the broader freeride range of the Rover.
Choose Your Rocket Free DW Board
Both package sizes use F-One’s Bamboo Deck Construction and include an installed traction pad, integrated carry handle and adjustable 90mm Twin-Tracks foil mount. They share the same downwind-focused shape; the difference is the amount of flotation, stability and swing weight you want.
| Board | Dimensions | How to Choose |
|---|---|---|
| 6'4 / 85L |
6'4 × 19 × 5.5in 193 × 48.3 × 14cm Approx. 5.4kg / 11.9lb |
The more compact and responsive choice for lighter or experienced riders comfortable starting on lower volume. |
| 6'8 / 95L |
6'8 × 19.5 × 5.6in 203.2 × 49.5 × 14.2cm Approx. 5.8kg / 12.8lb |
Adds flotation, waterline and stability for larger riders, choppier starts or anyone wanting more support before takeoff. |
Choose by rider weight, balance, foil level, water state and front-wing size—not volume alone. Riders new to parawing or downwind starts should avoid choosing marginal volume simply to reduce board size.
Choose Your North Ranger Size
The 3.2m is the compact choice for medium-to-strong wind, while the 4.2m adds useful low-end pull for moderate conditions, larger riders and setups that need more help accelerating. Use these manufacturer ranges as a practical starting point:
| Ranger Size | Wind Range | Riding Emphasis |
|---|---|---|
| 3.2m | 18–26 knots | Medium-to-strong wind, compact handling and less canopy to manage during powered downwind sessions. |
| 4.2m | 14–20 knots | Moderate wind with additional starting pull for larger riders or setups requiring more low-end power. |
Published ranges are based on an 85kg rider using a DW1100 foil and 96L board. Rider weight, board volume, foil size, technique, current and swell can all change the correct Ranger size.
Which Parawing Package Is Right for You?
| Package | Primary Focus | Best Reason to Choose It |
|---|---|---|
| Ranger + FREE DW | Dedicated downwind riding, stable starts and maximum board glide | You want the most supportive and glide-oriented board pairing for the Ranger’s compact pack-away program. |
| Ranger + FREE SURF | Dedicated pack-away riding with more surf-oriented board response | You accept more demanding starts in exchange for lower swing weight and tighter turns once airborne. |
| Rover + FREE DW | Freeride progression, stronger upwind drive and dependable starts | You want smoother power control and broader exploration instead of the Ranger’s specialized downwind focus. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a hydrofoil included?
No. This package includes one Ranger Parawing, one ROCKET FREE DW board and one North Waist Board Leash. Choose a separate foil with a four-bolt plate mount compatible with the board’s 90mm Twin-Tracks.
Is this a beginner parawing package?
It is best for riders who already have reliable foil control and experience with wing, kite or downwind starts. The FREE DW makes takeoff more supportive, but the Ranger still requires parawing-specific launching, steering, retrieval and pack-away skills.
Why choose FREE DW instead of FREE SURF?
Choose FREE DW for greater stability, more efficient acceleration and easier starts in chop or marginal power. Choose FREE SURF when tighter turns and surf response after takeoff matter more than maximum support and glide.
How is the Ranger different from the Rover?
The Ranger is the specialized choice for compact pack-away downwind and surf-style foiling. The Rover emphasizes smoother traction, more intuitive general power control, stronger upwind drive and broader freeride use.
Does the Ranger require a pump?
No. The Ranger is a non-inflatable single-skin parawing controlled through short bridles and the included carbon bar. It does not use an inflatable leading edge or center strut.
What else do I need for a downwind session?
You still need a compatible hydrofoil and mounting hardware, plus suitable safety equipment for your location. Downwinders require training, route and weather planning, flotation, visibility and communication equipment, and reliable assistance. Do not attempt open-water downwind runs alone.
